Bishop Jane Alexander will preach and preside at our 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. liturgies Sunday, November 30th. This is an opportunity

Four Evenings of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love in Advent Tuesdays December 2, 9, 16 and 23, from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. These quiet hours are times for you to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the season. Psalms, prayers, and brief meditations lead by the Rector will help you to be more ready to welcome the newborn Christ into your life at Christmas. A Celebration of the Light of Christ an the longest night of the year Sunday, December 21st, 7:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church (11533 - 135th Street). Pastor Darryl and the People of Mt. Zion have warmly invited the people of St. Peter's to join with them in letting Christ's light shine in areas of our lives where we might be feeling despair, loneliness, or pain as Christmas approaches. The celebration includes lots of candles, hymns, prayers, and words of hope and encouragement in Christ. For more information please contact our Rector.

Our Music Program cannot survive without the support of the Parish and Community. A couple of members have taken a leave of absence, and a
couple of members are retiring. We need your help to stabilize our current membership, and hopefully welcome new members. If you have not participated
in the choir, or haven't joined this group for a while, please give it some thought. We work hard but we also have lots of fun!

Mitten Tree: Cover its branches and fill the overflow box with gloves, scarves, etc.!
Socks for the Spady: Please continue to supply warm socks for our inner city partner!
Warm coats / clothing: Bags brought to church will be delivered weekly to inner city groups.
ICPM gift bags: Please take one of these home and fill it with the items suggested. (Delivery date: December 15th)
ICPM gave Christmas Gift Sacks to homeless, lonely sick, or unemployed men, women, teens, and children of the inner city in 2007. You can help show God's love by praying for people in the inner city who are homeless, sick, dying, lonely, unemployed, fighting addictions, or being abused.
This year, sadly, there are still many people in the inner city facing a bleak Christmas. ICPM hopes to give them an Emmanuel Christmas Gift Sack as a small sign of God's love. You can help by donating an Emmanuel Christmas Gift Sack this Christmas.
Please include the following items in an extra large, clear, zip-lock freezer bag (33 x 39cm). For the well-being of the person receiving your Christmas Gift Sack, please do not include any items which are not on this list.
Opportunities for Service in our Parish.
1. Visiting people of our Parish who can't come to church. Did you know that 30 households of our Parish have limited or no mobility. This makes it impossible or very difficult for these people to participate in activities at the church. If you would like to be part of a group of Home Visitors who help make friendly informal visits, or if you would like more information, please speak to the Rector.
2. Parish Hosts are required to be in attendance when a non-parish group is using our worship space. Parish hosts would welcome these groups and ensure their comfort while present in our church. For more information please speak to the Rector.
Sunday School
The Sunday School meets on Sunday mornings from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. in the church hall from September until May.
Classes are not usually held on Sundays from Christmas to New Years; during Spring break and at Easter.

The Primate's World Relief and Development Fund
The Primate's World Relief and Development Fund (PWDRF) supports ministry and aid, and development projects in Canada and throughout the world.
It also responds in emergency situations with relief and medical supplies. For more information contact Dr. John McIvor, St. Peter's PWDRF co-ordinator.

Altar Guild
St. Peter's Altar Guild meets bimonthly on the third Wednesday evening of the month from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. in the Anniversary room of the Lower Hall.
A light snack with tea/coffee and a short time of fellowship follows.
Both men and women are welcome to join the Altar Guild. Duties are usually carried out on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Saturday responsibilities include vacuuming the
sanctuary and choir areas; polishing brass/silver as needed; arranging flowers; changing altar hangings as needed and setting up communion
vessels etc. for Sunday services. Sunday responsibilities include re-setting for the later service between 9:30 and 10:15 a.m.; washing up/clearing away;
and distribution of altar flowers to parishioners following the service.
Other occasional duties include preparation for baptisms, weddings, and funerals; and co-sponsoring the Seder Meal on Maundy Thursday;
and helping with the Vestry-sponsored "Spring Cleaning and Palm Cross making" the Saturday morning before Palm Sunday.

Each Sunday, except in Lent, you have the opportunity to donate the Altar Flowers in thankgiving, celebration, or in memoriam, to the Glory of God.

Anglican Church Women
At St. Peter's, the Anglican Church Women group (A.C.W.) is concerned about fellowship and the needs of others.
The group meets on the third Monday evening of September, October, November, April and May at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall.
The meetings include devotions and discussions concerning Diocesan A.C.W. activities, the group's Prayer Partner, catering required for
receptions, preparations for the Annual Bazaar, and preparations for Regional and Diocesan Annual Meetings.
The Fall season usually begins with a pot-luck supper while a wind-up dinner, 'out on the town,' is enjoyed in June.
The A.C.W. organize the Parish Bazaar which takes place in November. A few weeks prior, one day is dedicated to making St. Peter's traditional
mincemeat which is sold at the Bazaar.
All women of the congregation are welcome. Come and join us in fellowship!

St. Peter's Choir
The Choir leads the music for the 10:30 a.m. service of worship and occasional anthems (primarily for major church festivals - Thanksgiving,
Remembrance Sunday, Christmas, Easter and Pentecost).
The group has major presentations the second Sunday of Advent (a Festival of Lessons and Carols at the regular 10:30 a.m. service)
and in the Spring (an ecumenical Festival of Praise with Choirs from the other denominations in the Westmount Council of Churches).
Other occasional responsibilities include leading the music for funerals as needed and as available; assisting with Christmas Eve services;
and a Book of Common Prayer Evensong service prior to a meeting of the Edmonton Prayer Book Society.

Servers' Guild
The Servers' Guild meets twice a year for a dinner and meeting. Both boys and girls of post-Confirmation and Sunday School age are welcome.
Adults are also welcome. Sunday responsibilities from 10:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. include lighting and extinguishing the altar candles; carrying the cross
during processional and recessional hymns; assisting with the preparation of bread and wine for communion; receiving the offertory from the
sidespersons, and returning it.
Other occasional duties include carrying processional candles. The group also assists with special services, particularly at Christmas, Easter,
Confirmations, and occasional funerals.

Sidespersons
The sidespersons meet as necessary on a Saturday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon to review duties, discuss responsibilities, and share information.
There are currently four teams with one spare at 8:30 a.m. and seven teams with no spares at 10:30 a.m. men women and children are all welcome.
Sunday responsibilities from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. and from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon include the distribution of service books and bulletins; receiving and
counting the collection: counting the congregation (including the Sunday school at the later service); and ushering at communion services. A full list
of duties, especially in relation to the counting of the collection, is on the bulletin board and above the sidespersons desk in the main office.

Our Parish History
The Parish of St.Peter's, in the Westmount area of Edmonton, was begun as a mission of Christ Church by the Rev. C.W. McKim.
The first church was erected on the southeast corner of 113 Ave. and 127 St. and dedicated on January 18, 1914. The second church
was built, not many years later, at 131 St. and 111 Ave. On February 23, 1921 this second church was moved to the present site at
127 St. and 111 Ave. The third St.Peter's was built in 1959 and dedicated on December 8, 1960.
The first minister at St. Peter's was the Rev. Capt. W.H. Davis who was killed in battle in France on August 9, 1918, as he prayed for dying soldiers. The first choir was formed in 1919. Three years later they formed a Pierrot troop, performing in various parishes in Edmonton and vicinity. In later years there was a very active Junior Choir under the successive leadership of Elsie Edgecombe, Ruby Dunn, and Hope Metszies. More recently the young people were involved in producing sanctuary plays under the banner of "St. Peter's Players."
The 26 (St. Peter's) Edmonton Scouts were first sponsored by the church in 1942. St. Peter's 2 X 4 Square Dancers also have a long history and association with the church, the Rev. Canon A.E. Thain and a few parishioners inaugurating the group in 1965. Over the years, St. Peter's has been involved in supporting and initiating various community projects. One of the first "Twins" support groups in Edmonton was begun by members of St. Peter's. More recently the members of our Outreach group, with the help of others, have been actively involved in supporting the 124th St. Drop-In Project.
In 1993 St. Peter's first participated in a Diocesan "Invitation Sunday" which encouraged parishioners to invite others to church one Sunday in the fall of the year. Since that time our parish family has grown significantly.
Over the years St. Peter's has been faithfully served by a number of outstanding and fondly remembered clergy, assistants and students, in addition to a variety of enthusiastic lay people who have given generously and sacrificially of their time, talents, energy, and resources. We're proud of our eighty five years of history, ministry and involvement in this area of the city of Edmonton, and warmly welcome newcomers into the fellowship of our parish community.
