"James sole ambition was to become a soldier and in due time he was accepted, fighting under Wolfe, in 1759 at the taking of Quebec.
Later he made his home at Flat Bush, Long Island, owning a part of the land where the city of Brooklyn now stands.
He was a Loyalist and following the close of the Revolution moved to Nova Scotia, settling near St. Mary's Bay in Digby County."
Ref. The late Florence Marr Smith of St. Thomas, his great grand-daughter.
"James Marr with eight dependents obtained a land grant in Digby, Nova Scotia. He settled on Marr's Brook (on the eastern side of that stream,)
at Barton (Nova Scotia) and died there on April 4, 1815 aged 84 years, 7 months, 26 days. A son of his died at Barton in May 1792 and
a daughter was drowned in July 1800. William Marr died of pleurisy in November 1791. James' daughter, Sarah, married Asa Porter on August 16,
